Richard Clapton

Australia Day Celebration, Speers Point Park, Lake Macquarie

26th January 2016

They say the best things in life are free and this gig was a perfect example.

Richard played to a massive crowd gathered on the foreshore of Lake Macquarie on a hazy, warm Australia Day evening. The band was a stellar line up the likes of which would normally be seen at a State Theatre gig. Danny Spencer on lead guitar, Johnny Salerno on drums, Colin Coorie on keys and the legendary Michael Hegarty on bass.

The songs and banter flowed. Richard is in excellent form following his return from Nashville to record his new album, The House of Orange. No songs from that album tonight, but a long list of well loved and beautifully played favourites. Time constraints prohibited an encore which, while a little disappointing, allowed for a spectacular fireworks display to end the evening.

Once again Richard Clapton has shown why his songs live in the hearts and lives of Australians of every walk of life.
